Bay Area Waterfront on the Marsh

Rentals in Suisun City, CA

Welcome to Suisun City, the Solano County waterfront community on the Suisun Marsh — midway between San Francisco and Sacramento, with a marina, rail service, and the bay country at its doorstep.

Suisun City — pronounced "soo-SOON," from the Patwin for "where the west wind blows" — is a city of roughly 29,500 residents in Solano County, California, set on the edge of the Suisun Marsh, the largest contiguous estuarine marsh on the West Coast. It sits about midway between San Francisco and Sacramento, a position that has defined its role as both a historic shipping point and a modern commuter community. The city dates to 1850, when schooner captain Josiah Wing found an island in the marsh and built a wharf and warehouse there, laying the foundation for a waterfront settlement. For much of its history, Suisun City served as a shipping and rail hub for Solano County's agricultural output, and the waterfront remained central to its identity even as suburban growth arrived in the later twentieth century. Today the city has reinvested in that waterfront, transforming it into a walkable district with a public marina, promenade, restaurants, and shops. Suisun City's location is its greatest asset. The Suisun-Fairfield Amtrak station, served by the Capitol Corridor line, connects commuters to Sacramento, Oakland, and San Jose, while Interstate 80 provides direct highway access across the Bay Area and Central Valley. Travis Air Force Base, one of the largest employers in the region, sits just to the north in neighboring Fairfield, and the base's presence shapes the local economy and housing market. The city appeals to commuters who want a more attainable Bay Area-adjacent location, military families tied to Travis, and anyone drawn to the marsh, the marina, and the wide-open spaces of the North Bay. Its neighborhoods range from the historic waterfront core to mid-century and newer single-family subdivisions, giving Suisun City a small-town, water-oriented character within easy reach of two major metropolitan regions.
